Facing Down the Ring Light
somatic tools for SELF TAPES
NYC: JAN 30 & 31
Somatic techniques + on camera auditions
Imagine what you could do with a reliable connection to your gut instincts and full emotional range when on camera, especially while making a self tape?
In this body-based workshop, actors get out of their heads and into their bodies while making self tapes. Actors will release tension, free impulses, and harness body intelligence, even when the ring light clicks on.
Actors directly apply the tools to audition material on camera in order to connect the dots to real world circumstances. Each actor will have the opportunity to work on camera in front of the group.
NYC: JAN 30 & 31
Thursday the 30th: 10am-3pm
Friday the 31st: 10am-5pm*
*It’s a longer day so everyone can work in front of the group. If you need to leave early, you can work earlier in the day.
what people are saying:
“The body contains so much wisdom, insight, and inspiration, and Ellie's approach to the embodiment worked to clear an internal path to those rich resources. I left feeling empowered to continue a dialogue with my own instrument, and to foster trust in my unique perspective.”
—Kate Eastman, Maestro
"I walked away feeling more confident that I could try the same material in lots of different ways in an effort to try things on until something felt like it fit. (I also think this immediately shifted how I think about walking into any room, ever. Am I lifting? Pushing? Pulling? Loved it.)"
— Mitch Lewis, Comedy Central Executive Producer
“Due to some health issues, I’ve put my “actor mind” and my “actor body” in two different boxes. This was the first time in years I felt that barrier break down. I was able to integrate the two halves of myself and access the vulnerability that I’ve been missing.”
—Nicole Cannon, The Magnificent Revengers

WORKSHOP Format:
Day 1: TRAINING
Actors learn body-based techniques to release inhibitions, expand emotional and imaginative range, and metabolize text using body intelligence.
The techniques include Michael Chekhov, Meisner, aspects of Fitzmaurice Voice Work, and many other somatic practices.*
*If you have experience with these techniques, please be open to surprise! Ellie offers a very specific and unique way into the work. It maybe be quite different.
Day 2: working
The second day is a hybrid between private on-camera coaching and a somatic acting class.
Actors continue to explore the body-based tools from day 1 through direct application to a real audition side, scene, or monologue.
Ellie coaches each actor individually in front of the class. Actors leave with their footage so they can continue to study how their acting translates on screen.
