1 Day of

Freedom &

Radical Release

SPRING 2025: DAYS TBD

Somatic techniques to liberate your actor self

If you want to shed old skins that don’t serve you, including critical voices inner and the bullish*t of our industry in order to discover a wilder, freer, actor self, this is for you.

Think of it like hot yoga for your actor soul, (no actual yoga, just emotional heat and movement…).

We get you out of your head and into your body so that you can do brave, released work through a combination of Michael Chekhov, Fitzmaurice Voice Work and other embodied practices.

You will apply the tools to short scenes in order to connect the dots between class and rehearsals or audition prep.

Details below.

what people are saying:

“The body contains so much wisdom, insight, and inspiration, and Ellie's approach to the embodiment worked to clear an internal path to those rich resources. I left feeling empowered to continue a dialogue with my own instrument, and to foster trust in my unique perspective.”

—Kate Eastman, Maestro

“Due to some health issues, I’ve put my “actor mind” and my “actor body” in two different boxes. This was the first time in years I felt that barrier break down. I was able to integrate the two halves of myself and access the vulnerability that I’ve been missing.”

—Nicole Cannon, The Magnificent Revengers

For experienced actors who want tools to:

  • drop into flow

  • Free up impulses

  • restore creative spirit

  • book More Work

Details:

This is an acting workout designed to strip away artifice and release the actor’s full potential.

Before the intensive:

Before the intensive, Ellie will send you a 1 page scene to memorize and a few questions to answer so that she can support your journey of embodiment.

On the day:

Introduction to body-based techniques, including: Michael Chekhov, Meisner and Fitzmaurice Voice Work. Each method provides tools to release tension, increase breath capacity, and metabolize texts using body intelligence.

By applying the tools directly to short scenes, actors discover new pathways into inhabiting a character and following their own impulses. Actors leave with a context of how to apply the tools in auditions and rehearsals.

Logistics:

LOCATION: 32 Avenue of the Americas, NYC. It is one block from the A/C/E subway lines, and two blocks from the 1/N/R/6 subways lines.

LUNCH: Both days we will take a 30 minute lunch. Bringing lunch and snacks is recommended. Lunch is short and there aren’t a ton of places nearby. You will probably be hungry and want this time to sit. Your future self will thank you.
